Unique/Total Pageviews? (please help)

Postby CSharpeRun » 2005-06-07 05:22 am

I don't own a topsite, but I'm with a group who has a site on one. Basically, we're trying to promote our e-wrestling federation and everything, and we don't know what Unique Pageviews or Total Pageviews means.

I understand Unique Hits In/Out, and that's cool. Basically, what are Unique Pageviews and Total Pageviews about? We have hits in everything else except for those two.

Can someone please explain?

Much appreciated,
Chris

unige page views means it only counts a visitor once, and total counts them every time they visit that day!

Right, unique means once a day per visitor. We have unique hits in and out, but we have zero pageviews (both unique and total).

No matter what we do, nothing seems to get us a hit for either of the pageviews counters. Does that make sense? I have no idea why this happens.

I appreciate you taking the time to give me that answer, but we've tried that and it doesn't seem to work.

Please don't tell me that unique pageviews only counts a visitor the first time they visit the page, and then never ever counts them again... Because if that's the case, then we're going to have an extremely hard time getting noticed, lol.

So in other words, I understand what unique means (once per visitor/per day). What does it consider a pageview?

Thanks for any help you can give me,
Chris

That kind of makes sense. However I tried reloading the x-net topsites button on our site, and we still didn't get anything. Check out our stats and see if this is weird.

Average This Month Last Month 2 Months Ago 3 Months Ago
Unique Pageviews 0.00 0 0 0 0
Total Pageviews 0.00 0 0 0 0
Unique Hits In 10.00 13 13 10 4
Total Hits In 18.25 18 30 18 7
Unique Hits Out 25.25 6 42 49 4
Total Hits Out 34.75 35 46 54 4

Sorry if that doesn't make much sense. I just copied and pasted.

Our affiliates (and the topsites button) is located in a frames page. Would that cause any problems? I don't know.

Sorry if I'm a hassle, but I really care about getting us noticed. We're on the first page in four catagories, but neither of the pageview catagories. It seems like the last three pages of sites on this list don't have any pageviews, either.

::shrugs:: I've tried loading different pages and going through it different ways. I'm stumped. If you can't help me any further then I understand, and I appreciate your attention.

Thanks,
Chris

Okay, so I think I found a theroy on this:

This topsite can be found at http://www.xnetwrestling.com

Anyway, I checked out the sites with no pageviews and tried to find a difference between those and the pages with pagviews. Basically the sites with the new xnet button (which I'm guessing is the new button from when the script was updated) are documenting pageviews, where as sites with the old button (like mine) don't register pageviews.

Pageviews are something that came with the latest version of topsites I'm guessing? And does this make sense? I guess I'll tell my e-fed president to register again or to try to get the new button, or something. Do you think that would fix it?

Thanks,
Chris

Perhaps you had changed your button code..

from like topsitelist.com/button.php?id=22

to just an ordinary button. Thus not generating the button.php for your sites id.

Hmm... We were just going to resubmit the site to get an updated button (since the owner of the list is using a new button for the new script) but maybe I'll just have him look into what code he has vs. what the code should be.

The button is also linked from a form page. However, I've loaded that individual cell and it still didn't give us a pageview.

But I appreciate your help guys. Hopefully we'll be able to get it sorted out by looking at the code.

Thanks again!
