On itopsites unique hits in and hits in stopped working and on my topsite for my own server unique hits out and hits out never did work properly.

What is going on?

In this link, you can test it yourself, that is why I gave you the link to see. Click on the blue Top 100 Christian Forums button and monitor the change in the unique hits out and hits out for this particular site submitted to the Top 100 Christian Forums.

In the YouthforChrist link the unique hits out and hits out right now reads 0 and 0. After I just clicked in from that site (which is not my site) to the topsite the reading is still 0 and 0. That is not how it is suppose to work, obviously. It should now read as 1 and 1.

I did not sign up with this YouthforChrist forum site, for this is a forum that signed up to this topsite themselves. The url they have is the url they can submit and edit with their password. Why is this an issue? What is the point of being able to change one's url only for it then not to work for unique hits out and hits out? I don't get that.

Wht is it not working for this particular site (YouthforChrist) on the Top 100 Christian Forums? Unique hits out and page views are working, but not unique hits out and hits out.

you can only get hits in from the url you signed up with, and other subpages of that url.

Is that such a good idea? What if someone gets a new website? How are we to monitor this efficiently. We can't watch every account one by one. I think it should be so that any site is allowed and can be changed after all that is what the edit feature is for.

the ends justify the means. direct links = search engine popularity

So if someone changes their url (assuming that is what happened here), that nullifies their link being a direct link?

Why can't their link still be a direct link if they change the link because they want to use another website for the same purpose?

well, if they change their url, they would update it on the topsites. and do people change urls constantly? this site has had the same url for like 5 years.

Exactly, they change and update it on the topsite, so what is the problem?

So why when they change their url (assuming they did, which I am not so sure about here), why is there still a problem for this particular page and button code for unique hits in and hits in?

Anyway, I deleted that site and asked the person to sign up again, and maybe by some miracle the unique hits in and hits in will work this time.

Sorry to say it, but in my experience this is well and truly not true. In fact, unless you edit the code on your site to be ranked, hits in won't be counted

Code: Select all
<a href="http://examplesite.itopsites.com/">

is changed to
Code: Select all
<a href="http://examplesite.itopsites.com/in.php?id=12345">

And with edited code your hit in will be counted regardless of the referrer.

true, but then you negate the benefits of direct links, such as increased google exposure.

Um.. you mean, "true", as in, the hits in ranking method doesn't work, like, by counting hits in?? .. wierd.. :? Is there any intention of making the hits in ranking method count hits in?

it does count hits in. for example, click the "webmaster topsites" button at the bottom of this page and it takes you to the gateway to vote for this site. i don't know what the problem you're having is. can you provide a concrete example?
