Re: Aardvark Topsites PHP 5.1.2 Released

I have version 4.2.1 and I see the manual says:

======================
From 4.1.x or 4.2.x

Delete all your old Aardvark Topsites PHP files except config.php
======================
Questions:

1) Will I loose the custom top and bottom I have already made at http://www.momsbreak.com/topsites/ ?

2) Will I loose any of my sites already listed?

The main reason besides security I want to update is to get the inactive sites to delete.

Thanks

1. skins are not compatable between 4.x and 5.x, so you should backup your old skin. they are pretty similar though, so it will be easy to translate between your old wrapper.html and the new one.

2. no. although, you should always backup first in case something goes wrong. but it is very unlikely that you will lose any data.

Hello,

I got everything updated and working except the page that says "To deter cheating, a gateway page has been put up. Click the link below to enter the topsites list." On older pages when the button is clicked go to the cheater page but I added a new web page to the list and when I click the button it goes directly top sites instead of the cheater pages. I did check and "Gateway page to deter cheating for hits in" is turned on. The only thing I am doing different on this version is I am using the approve member settings which I was not using before.

Thanks

Jeremy, I see this one has almost been put to bed. I have one more question. Are there any security issues other than the magic quotes gpc issues (mine are off) for 4.2.0? I don't want to upgrade if I don't have to as I haven't had any issues with hackers or spammers after implementing some of the solutions provided in this forum. I see none of the skins are the same or even the images etc. in the new version.

there are no known security issues besides the widely publicized one.

Jeremy, thanks for the re-assurance. I'm too lazy right now to start over, customizing my sites again for the 5.1.2 upgrade. I will get off of my fat a$$ soon though to see what features I may be missing out on with 5.1.2.

i cant find 5.0.2 in Manual section only 5.0.X is that instruction for 5.0.2? for exempel this one.

From 5.0.x
Delete all your old Aardvark Topsites PHP files except settings_sql.php and the skins folder
Upload all the new files (except settings_sql.php and the skins folder) to the same folder as your old settings_sql.php
Go to install/upgrade-5.0.x.php in your browser and follow the instructions there
Delete the install folder when you are done

thanks for help.

in this context, x means any number. so those instructions apply for versions 5.0.0, 5.0.1, and 5.0.2 because there were only minor changes between them.
