Fatal error on this site

I have just joined this site and noticed that you have the following error in the footer:

Fatal error: ./cache/ is NOT writable. in /home/dumbmatter/webapps/aardvarktopsitesphp/forums/includes/acm/acm_file.php on line 109

As you probably know this means that your forums cache folder has the wrong permissions/chmod
777 would be the correct setting.

thanks for reporting the problem!

the size of the cache folder tends to approach infinity if i let phpbb write to it, so i just don't let it write to it. that error shows up, but everything seems to work, so i haven't been motivated to further investigate the problem.

i probably have a setting wrong somewhere, likely a relic from continuously upgrading. a quick look on archive.org shows that this forum originally used "Invision Board v1.0 BETA 3" back in 2002. my, how time flies.

No problem

It might be a good idea to upgrade to phpBB 3.0.6 when its finished. It will support several types of cache.
Dont worry about the cache folder increasing, it just means that your forum pages gets cached.
And in the end it means a faster board using less resources.

thanks to your prodding i have fixed it. the problem was that my cron.php got truncated somewhere along the way, so it wasn't purging old files from the cache. thanks!
