You can always grab all known IP ranges for Russia or Turkey from:

IP Address Range or
IP Address Ranges

But you need to know that you will blocked also a lot legitimate users from this countries.

In my opinion is still best way explained on first page of this topic where you will deleted button.php completely from your server.

If you want to block an entire country by their set of IP addresses, there are now sites that help to make this easy to do.

http://www.blockacountry.com/

It still appears sites from Turkey are the worst at spamming topsites. More and more sites in Russia are also doing it now.

http://www.countryipblocks.net/

Above is another site where you can add country IP blocks. It would be good if somebody could compare all the results from these 2 sites and report about it here. Are they exactly the same, or about the same (possibly using % of similarity)?

Checking the IPs given for both Turkey and Russia and comparing them would be helpful to many in the top site community.

If any webmasters from these 2 countries are concerned that their countries are being blocked, ask spammers there to quit what they are doing to topsite lists. It's not fair that they sign up on topsites if they do not meet the requirements to join.

Good Luck!

If you got a toplist in a non-english language you probably have visitors that have a browser in the same non-english language as well.
Why not only show the site to them and not people who have russian or english languages in the webbrowsers? These people mostly spam your website.

Here is a list of country codes:
http://www.mcanerin.com/en/articles/meta-language.asp

The example PHP-code below is using "sv" - that's for Sweden.

Code: Select all
<?php
if(ereg("sv", $_SERVER["HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE"]))

'here goes your code if the country-code is correct!

else

'wrong language! we may have a spammer on out hands!

echo "Sorry, Registrations is currently disabled.";

?>

Would it be possible to let the PHP-script download the source and look for a specific word on the websites?
And if it find that word it wont let the user register?

I have serious problems with a spammer and he's websites does always use a special word on them, I would like to block him.

Help!! :?

I started on some code but I'm no good with PHP, can anyone please help me here:
Code: Select all
$checkhtmlsource = file_get_contents({$TMPL['url']});
$checkhtmlsource = strtolower($checkhtmlsource);

if(stristr($main_string,"the evil word")){
die ("Cant open database.");}
